It's sweltering... I mean tropical!

Day 1 is complete and was quite a ride! We left our house in Hudson very, very, very early to catch the 5:20am flight. The flight started from Minneapolis and had a stop in Atlanta before arriving in Belize City at 10:30am. The minute we got off the plane and onto the tarmac, the heat was sweltering! It was 92 degrees here today and felt like we were standing in a sauna!
After a mix up with the rental car (they lost the reservation and didn't have a car available), we got upgraded from a car to a SUV from another company and were on our way south to Punta Gorda. The drive took 6 hours and went through some amazing countryside with jungle, mountain, and ocean-side roads. Belize has a very simple transportation system as they have four main highways, the Northern, Western, Southern, and Hummingbird highways. We were able to find our way (mostly) without much trouble. Check out our video from the "Cheers"restaurant, where we had a very traditional Belize dish of stewed pork and rice and beans. We got into Punta Gorda later than we expected, but we were surprised by a hotel on the beach with amazing views of the ocean. We are really excited about the home stay with the Mayan families tomorrow in Aquacate and can't wait to show you all about it! Don't forget to check out the Facebook page and ask questions! Good night and hope you enjoy the Day 1 video!
